Actually, Crossfit CAN be douchey….sometimes.

I have to admit, I’m usually surprised when someone tells me that Crossfit has a reputation for being a “douchey” sport, or rather a sport that attracts a lot of douchebags.(Definition of douchbag from Urban Dictionary: Someone who has surpassed the levels of jerk and asshole……it goes on but it gets vulgar so I’ll let you read for yourself). If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you know how much I love my box and the people at my box.  I think almost

Quick and Easy Paleo “Bread” (seriously, seriously easy)

One of the hardest things I find about eating in a somewhat paleo way is finding breakfast or snack foods. Combine this with the fact that I am a super lazy cook and I’m pretty much eating eggs and nuts all the time. Well, as much as I love both these foods, they do get boring occasionally. That’s why I’m so happy to share this recipe for Quick and Easy Paleo “Bread”.   I got this recipe from my nutritionist (yes, I will write a post about this soon)

Why you can’t take double unders for granted….

So, I’ve been having a fun week being schooled by my own arrogance this week…and it’s only Tuesday. It seems that the Crossfit universe is trying to tell me that I’ve gotten a bit big for my britches and it’s time to calm the f*ck down. On Sunday, I knew I was tired. I’d just done the workout..and a full round of pull-up training. I knew my grip was shot and it was time to go home. Did I? No. Why? Because I wanted to be all bad*ss and

Pull-Up update: Moving away from Banded Pull-ups

As you know, from my many, many posts on this topic, I’ve been trying to get a strict pull-up for a long, long time. In that time, I’ve made some serious progress – moving from not being able to do one with the Blue Band, to be able to do a pull-up fairly easily with the black band.  In that time I also learned how to kip and in fact, just this week, started being able to string 2-3 kipping pull-ups together.

How do burpees make you feel?

If you are one of those people who loves burpees, let me just stop you right here. No need to read any further.  Stop right now and go back to doing whatever it is you people do – chew nails, kick puppies …whatever non normal, inhuman thing it is that you like do when not throwing yourself joyfully on and off the floor.

Ok, still here? Good! In real life, we would be friends.

I want to have a frank and honest discussion about burpees. I have

Doubting myself as a Crossfitter

So, it has definitely been a while since I last sat down to tell you all about my Crossfit Journey.  There’s been so much in my head recently, that all I’ve wanted to do is bury my head in the sand and wait for some of it to magically sort itself out so that I can focus again. Right now..this is me…. However, we all know that that is not how sh*t gets done and it is time for me to man-up. So, here’s the 4-1-1 (does anyone

Pull-up Update: After 2 weeks of the Full Circle Pull-Up Program

Well All, it’s that time again.  I only have time for a quick update as my boss does tend to like it if I show up to work within the same hemisphere as “on time” (I’m chronically late, I think it’s charming…).  As you might know, I switched up my pull-up program two weeks ago to start doing the Full Circle pull-up program. At that time, I tested my one rep max and could get a

Working my goats (or whatever the h*ll that means…)

Before I begin, let me just take a second to appreciate the awesomeness that was Elizabeth Akinwale at the Regionals.  Love her. Such a class athlete.  And brilliantly strong. Did I mention that I love her?? Anyway, I digress.  This blog is about me. (Yay!). And today I have a confession to make. I have poor Cardiovascular and Respiratory Endurance (see Coach Sophie? I have been reading my Level 1 Crossfit Training Guide…but again, I digress). Now, if you’ve read my blog before you are probably aware of

And the journey to my first pull-up continues…..

Hi Everyone, and a top of the morning to you! I’m off to shadow one of our coaches teach the fundamentals today. I’m still loving the learning to be a coach! So much to learn, so much to learn…  20 days left until the Level 1 certification course. But on another note, just in case you thought I had forgotten my quest for the pull-up – I haven’t. It is still my primary Crossfit goal.  I got a bit distracted with

Should you do your Level 1 if you aren’t a “great” crossfitter?

Should you do your Level 1 if you aren’t a great crossfitter? This is a question that I’ve been asking myself recently.  Why, you ask? (It’s so nice how you are always interested in what I have to say….) Our gym is hosting two Level 1 Certification Courses in the next few months.  It seems like fate that the Crossfit universe would drop a Level 1 course right in my lap the moment that the Open was finished.  As you know, the focus of this blog was
