Pictures of Me: Still a long way to go….

I’ve spoken a couple of times about how Crossfit has changed the way I think about beauty, my body and what I want to get from doing athletics.  Most of the time, I think that the way I think about these things has really, fully changed for the better. And then something like this happens: This is a picture of Glenn and I doing Bear Complext that one of our friends took at the box.  I saw this picture, and something happened that reminded me that

Crossfit Open 14.5: Any resemblance to burpees was merely coincidental

Well, it’s been a while since the Open finished (guess I’ll need to change the slogan for my blog now!!) and as great as it was, man, am I glad it’s over! And let’s be honest, it finished with a bang.  14.5 was definitely the hardest,  most mentally difficult workout I have done since starting crossfit.  Just to refresh your memory – sorry to those of you who are still trying to forget – here is what 14.5 consisted of:

Looking at that, you

Around the Crossfit Water Cooler

Well, submissions for 14.4 are closed. We’ve all done as well as we are going to do.  The pain of the 50 (!!!!) toes to bar is fading, wall balls are just a memory.  So now begins the next best thing to hearing a Crossfit Open WOD announced …(drum roll please)…speculating about what the next WOD is going to be!! I bet you if you know a crossfitter (and let’s face it, you do if you are reading this blog), then they have a theory on what 14.5

Crossfit Open 14.4: Well, that was unexpected!! » My journey to the Crossfit Open 2014 » Covered in Chalk

For the last 4 weeks, starting on  Wednesday nights, I’ve had this feeling in my belly.  It’s a feeling I know well. It’s the feeling I get before checking to see what the WOD is each morning, the one I get before I’m about to lift a heavy weight or go for a PR or when I’m this-close to getting a new gymnastics movement. I call it “Crossfit exciety“- it’s a cross between extreme excitement and extreme anxiety.  If you crossfit, you’ve probably had this feeling. I

Crossfit Open 14.3: How I did vs How I thought I would do

I confess, I’ve been a terrible blogger recently. I thought that I would post every day during the Crossfit Open period, but it turns out that real life goes on even during the Open and I just haven’t felt much like blogging.  That doesn’t mean that I’m not loving my first Crossfit Open, I am! It is the ultimate in bad*ss experiences.  So far I’ve enjoyed all the WODs…which pretty much guarantees that 14.4 is going to be a burpee, thruster, toes to bar medley.  It’s

Crossfit Open 14.2: Where dreams come true

I remember when I first started crossfit and the women around me started to get their first kipping pull-ups.  It felt like that was something that was never going to happen for me. It felt so far away, like it was on the other side of a crossfit line that I could not cross. And the legit crossfitters lived on the other side of that line. Even with all the work I’ve been doing on pull-ups and getting stronger, that line has still felt so far away.

Pull-up update: Week 10 and 11

So it’s been more than a month since I’ve given an update on the pull-up – mostly because February was mostly a sh*t month for my pull-up progress.  It was just hard in all areas – I felt like my progress was backsliding; my motivation was low; I was distracted preparing for the Open; we moved gyms so I had trouble getting back into my routine etc..etc… To be honest, I actually did feel like giving up after week 10 – you’ll see why

Crossfit Open 14.1: How I did vs How I thought I would do

So I finally did it! I finally competed and finished my first Crossfit Open WOD. Last year, I didn’t feel ready to do the Open. This year, I still don’t feel really. The difference is that I’m doing it anyway! I had to do the WOD on Friday since I was going to be travelling all weekend and wouldn’t be near a box before the deadline.  This meant I didn’t have a lot of time to practice…but it also meant I didn’t have a lot of time to worry

Today is the beginning of the Crossfit Open…how do I feel?

I have to confess that I wasn’t feeling as enthused or optimistic about the Crossfit Open recently due to, what I perceived as, a lack of progress.  To be honest, I wasn’t really looking forward to it at all. Then this happened…..

I GOT MY FIRST KIPPING PULL-UP!!!

It kinda happened out of the blue but the week had definitely been looking up. I had just been starting to feel like I’d gotten a bit
