Guest Blog: Crossfitting at Crossfit Louvre (Paris, France)

So I tried to make a map this morning with all the other boxes that either G and I have visited to or someone from our gym has visited and written a guest blog about.  I failed miserably. Essentially I now have to wait for G to wake up for him to explain the mysteries of the internet to me….again.  I swear to you all, I am a strong, independent woman who can deadlift 121kg (268lbs), but the internet is a scary, scary place. I wanted to do a map to

Sleepless in Switzerland

Forgive me for the cheezy blog title, sometimes I just can’t help myself. Almost every day, during my somewhat stalkerlike troll of internet blogs and websites, I read about the importance of sleep (like this article here).  And how you really, really need to get enough sleep in order to 1) be a bad*ss crossfitter, 2) be a somewhat functional human being in your work and social life.  People rave about the benefits of 8-9 hours of sleep. I hate them. All of them. I don’t discriminate

Sunday Short-term Goal Setting

By now you have probably realized that I’m a little A.D.D. about trying new things. I really like to start things but sticking with them is a whole other story. (For example, my Creatine Experiment, the Hatch Program and the Sleep 30…all great ideas…that, for one reason or another, did not ever get completed.) In this case, it’s really

Pull-up program: end of week 2 update

Metcon: 10 min AMRAP 100m Farmer’s Walk – 10kg, 10 box jumps, 10 hand release push ups. Let me just start by saying that I DIDN’T SCALE THE BOX JUMPS!! Normally, I do step ups because box jumps terrify me. I always get this very vivid image of my foot slipping off the box and me collapsing in a noisy, undignified heap. Possibly with a head injury or at least minus some dignity. But I’ve been pushing myself to do them more and more when the metcon calls for them and

New Pull-Up program!!!

What I have realized this week is that there isn’t going to be some “Cue the Rocky Music, we’ve got ourselves a montage…” moment in my quest for the pull-up.  There’s no fast forward to catchy tunes where all of my pain looks like a dignified quest for greatness. Nope. What there is going to be is me standing under that bar, willing my hands to go up to do just one more banded pull-up than yesterday. There will be days where I get that pull-up, and days where

Guest Blog: Kyuta does Crossfit HH in Hamburg, Germany

As you guys know, I love hearing about other boxes. So I’m really lucky that I go to a gym full of travellers. Kyuta joined our box about a year ago, and watching his journey has been almost as much fun as being on mine. To say Kyuta loves Crossfit would be like saying I have a mild affection for M&Ms. He lives it…and he has come a long way. I’m actually pretty sure that he is made of elastic…no one should be able to do burpees as quickly as

Getting ready for the Crossfit Open

The Crossfit Open is coming up – much faster than I would like it to considering how much work I still need to do to get to the level I’d like to be. I’m not sure exactly what I will do to get ready for the Open (all ideas welcome!!) But as a first step – after watching this great video about the 15 movements to learn for the Open – I took a look back at the Opens from 2011, 2012 and 2013 to

Double Banded Pull-ups (you’ve come a long way baby!)

But that isn’t what I want to talk about today. Today is about where I’m at. I’ve been crossfitting for just over a year now. I

Crossfit Relationship “Phases” (or the diary of a crossfit romance) » My journey to the Crossfit Open 2014 » Covered in Chalk

Now as you know, Crossfit and I have been together for a while now (14 months to be exact). As such, we’ve been through all the phases you would expect of a new relationship.  (This article describes the 9 stages of a love relationship.) We went through the original “infatuation” phase where you can’t stop talking about your new relationship. No, I’m serious; I didn’t talk about anything but Crossfit for at least 6 months. Then the phase when you start to realize that neither one of you is
