Crossfit Relationship “Phases” (or the diary of a crossfit romance) » My journey to the Crossfit Open 2014 » Covered in Chalk

Now as you know, Crossfit and I have been together for a while now (14 months to be exact). As such, we’ve been through all the phases you would expect of a new relationship.  (This article describes the 9 stages of a love relationship.) We went through the original “infatuation” phase where you can’t stop talking about your new relationship. No, I’m serious; I didn’t talk about anything but Crossfit for at least 6 months. Then the phase when you start to realize that neither one of you is

Paleo ice cream makes me happy!

After 5.5 weeks of holidays in a 7 week period, my routine and my life has been a bit off track. So with our return home, G and I are trying to focus on eating healthier and getting back into regular Crossfit.  However, after 7 weeks of sugar filled treats, it is hard to think about putting those aside for a while.  To help with transitioning back to the life of a crossfit bad*ss, sometimes you need some treats. And treats I had. One night, during one of my verges-on-stalking internet

Mental Expectations, Physical Realities

When I was growing up, my parents always told me “You can do anything you put your mind to”. This was great, it allowed me to chase my dreams and reach for the stars. It wasn’t until later that I realized that sometimes parents lie to their children. (Just Kidding Mom, but seriously, no matter how hard I try, I still cannot move things with my mind. Seriously, not a thing). It’s this attitude from my younger years that I’ve taken into my crossfitting life. I truly believe I will

Crossfit: Where everybody knows your name

“Sometimes you want to go Where everybody knows your name, and they’re always glad you came. You wanna be where you can see, our troubles are all the same You wanna be where everybody knows Your name.”
(Where Everybody Knows Your Name by Gary Portnoy and Judy Hart Angelo)
I’m an expat, I’ve lived away from my home country (Go Canada!!) for over 7 years now, and there are days when it feels like I am a long way from home.  I could write a whole blog post (or a novel)

Stay-puft marshmallow me! (The downside of vacation)

Anyway you slice it, coming back from vacation sucks. It involves getting over jet lag, going back to work..and trying to fit into your jeans. Honestly what happens in my head that I think I can eat whatever I want on vacation and there will be no consequences? I went on a two week vacation in what could be called “the land of carbohydrates” if the brochure was based on what I ate. Most of it was delicious, most of it I enjoyed. But, did I enjoy it enough to

When Crossfit became more than just a fitness program for me

I drank the crossfit kool-aid pretty quickly after starting crossfit. I was hooked on the comraderie, the quick improvement and how great I was feeling. But it was still something I was doing to lose weight and become a bit less unfit. But after about 5 months, something changed. Something happened which changed not only the way I looked at crossfit but also what I wanted to get from crossfit. The miraculous occurence was (..drum roll please…..) the Crossfit Open.  Our box, like boxes all over the world,

I didn’t pack guilt in my suitcase…so why is it here? (feeling guilty while on holiday)

This isn’t your average “I feel so guilty because I haven’t worked out while on holiday” post – I have worked out – twice. Both times were awesome. I will probably do it again. Nope, this post isn’t about that. This post is about feeling guilty for not having as much “fun” as I am programmed to think I should. Let me explain – somewhere along the way, maybe from all the advertisements, or other people’s stories about everything they did while on holiday, I got the idea that

GUEST BLOG: Mera goes back to her roots…(Crossfit Commonweath Boston)

It’s so exciting for me to hear about other Boxes from all over the world. I always wonder if people are having the same great experience that I am and whether they love the people at their box as much as I love the people at mine. So whenever someone comes back from visiting another box, I can’t wait to hear their stories. Today, my friend Mera (who was the one who originally christened the chin-up the “the poor, unattractive cousin of the hot and sexy pull

My first Crossfit Team Competition (or wtf is a Zou Zou?)

There are many reasons to do a Crossfit Competition (for example see: 8 reason you should do a Crossfit Competition but the number one reason is….it is just a sh*t ton of fun! On Saturday I participated in my first Crossfit competition, the Swiss Team Challenge.  The Swiss Team Challenge is a team competition for mixed teams of 4. Boxes all across Switzerland do the challenge at the same time and it consists of 6 WODs (that were, to be honest, a little bit

Fat Girl does Pull – Ups (motivation for the Pull Up quest)

Hi All, Was looking for some tips and motivation for my pull-up quest this morning (only 189 days til the Open) and found this video. It’s called Fat Girl does Pull-Ups. They are being cheeky with the Fat Girl business as she’s not really fat (I say this as I weigh almost the same as her (probably more – I didn’t do the conversion to kilos) and I prefer the term “curvy” lmao ). It is cool to see someone with some size (note: I still hate you tiny people
