Pull-up program: end of week 2 update

Metcon: 10 min AMRAP 100m Farmer’s Walk – 10kg, 10 box jumps, 10 hand release push ups.

Let me just start by saying that I DIDN’T SCALE THE BOX JUMPS!! Normally, I do step ups because box jumps terrify me. I always get this very vivid image of my foot slipping off the box and me collapsing in a noisy, undignified heap. Possibly with a head injury or at least minus some dignity.

But I’ve been pushing myself to do them more and more when the metcon calls for them and today I did four rounds of them. I finished near the bottom of the class but I didn’t scale any part of it. That’s happening more and more now and it feels good.

So does the progress I’ve been making with my pull-ups. It took me a bit longer to finish the second week of the program due to a pesky, lingering, no-holds-barred, son-of-a-b*tch cold that just wouldn’t die. I had to take a few days off and that set my pull up practice back a few days. But I got back at it today and was able to do all the reps (total 39 pull-ups today). The table below gives an update on the first two weeks of the program:

Weeks 1 and 2 of pull up program Nov 11, 2013

It’s really nice to have a program and clear goals.

Your turn: What skill are you working on? Have you ever done a specific skills training program?

    Hi Jennifer,
Here is the link to the post which outlines the program http://wp.me/p3tmpB-bL. The pull ups are banded, strict…though there tends to be some mad scrambling on the last couple of reps 🙂

Will also send you a link to the google doc via email that you could use for your own program if you want. We picked the starting number of reps by seeing what my number of max reps with the double purple bands (8) was and used that as the starting point.

YAYYYY for non-scaled box jumps!! That’s a huge feat! 🙂

Are those banded pull-ups or kipping? Can you link me to the plan that you are using again? I’m sure you posted before, but I really want to start working on these more!
